Filed under: Sports Stars — Ningsuhen @ 4:08 pm

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, (born 5 February 1985 in Funchal, Madeira), better known as Cristiano Ronaldo, is a professional Portuguese footballer. He plays for the English club Manchester United F.C. and Portugal. Ronaldo was born in Madeira, Portugal, to Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and the late José Dinis Aveiro (1954 – London, 5 September 2005). He has one older brother, Hugo (b. 1975), and two elder sisters, Elma (b. 1974) and Liliana Cátia (b. Madeira, 5 October 1976). Liliana Cátia works as a singer by the stage name “Ronalda” in Portugal. She is married to José Pereira and has a son named Rodrigo. Cristiano second name (”Ronaldo”) is relatively rare in Portugal. His parents named him after former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Christiano RonaldoHe began kicking a football when he was three, and when he started primary school at age six, his passion for the sport was obvious. His favorite boyhood team was SL Benfica even though he would later join their rival, sporting. He first played for an amateur team, Andorinha, where his father was the kit man, when he was just eight years old. By 1995, at just ten years of age, Cristiano Ronaldo’s reputation was growing in Portugal. Madeira’s top two teams, CS Marítimo and CD Nacional were both interested in signing him. Marítimo, the bigger team, missed a crucial meeting with Rui Santos manager of Andorinha, and as a result Ronaldo signed for Nacional. After a title-winning campaign at Nacional, Ronaldo went on a three day trial with Sporting who subsequently signed him for an undisclosed sum.

Ronaldo joined Sporting’s other youth players who trained at the Alcochete, the club’s “football factory,” where he received first-class instruction. Sporting realised that Ronaldo needed more support and arranged for his mother to join him. He made his debut for Sporting against Moreirense and scored two goals. He also featured for Portugal in the UEFA in more than 17 Championships.

His performances at the UEFA under 17 championships drew him to the attention of the wider football world. He was first spotted by former Liverpool F.C. manager Gerard Houllier at the age of 16. However, Liverpool later declined him because he was too young and needed some time to develop into a top footballer. However, he came to the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer of 2003, when Sporting beat Manchester United 3–1 in the inauguration of the Alvalade XXI stadium in Lisbon. Ronaldo demonstrated his ability to play on both wings. After the match, United’s players spoke enthusiastically of the young talent that they had just played against, saying they would rather have him in their team than play against him in the future.

Now, he is a great fan of millions of people in all over the world and is playing for the club Manchester United. Recently he has been showing poor performances but many people are still expecting a very good performance in the future.

Will Ganguly Play in the Next World Cup?

Filed under: Cricket Fever, Sports Stars — Ningsuhen @ 2:16 pm

Saurav GangulyAlmost every Indian knows who Ganguly is. He is also one the greatest Indian Cricket Players. Ganguly is a left-handed batsman and a right-handed medium-pace bowler. Ganguly is naturally right-handed, but became a left-handed batsman at a young age so that he could use his brother, Snehasish’s equipment.

Ganguly has been nicknamed Bengal Tiger, Prince of Calcutta, and Lord Snooty by his opponents, and affectionately Dada (which means elder brother in Bengali) by his team-mates. Ganguly went on to become the captain of the Indian cricket team from 2000 to 2005. He led India to the 2003 World Cup finals, and holds the Indian captaincy record for the most Test victories.

Following an exit from the national team in early 2006, Ganguly was recalled to the Indian test side in December, staging a successful comeback in the 2006 - 2007 Indian tour of South Africa. Ganguly made his One-Day International debut for India against Australia in 1992. He didn’t score much and was dropped from further matches. Four years later, following a good domestic record, he was recalled into the national side for a Test series in England. He made his Test debut at Lord’s, scoring a century he became only the third cricketer to score a century on debut at Lord’s, after Harry Graham and John Hampshire. (Andrew Strauss has also since accomplished this feat). With a century in that match and repeated the feat in the match which followed. He was retained for the One day team and he went on become a regular in both forms of the game.

In January 1998, he had one of his most memorable performances in the final of the Independence Cup at Dhaka against Pakistan he scored 124 as India successfully chased down 315 off 48 overs, winning the Man of the match award.

Now, Will he play in the Indian Team in the 2011 World Cup? I hope not. Because even though he has been playing well recently, he is full of inconsistency and he is old as Sachin. Its time for India to try younger players and give opportunities to the newer ones. The older players like Ganguly, Tendulkar have played well but they are now showing weaker performances which may be the sign of their incapabiltities. So, If I’m to give my opinion, I’ll definitely choose the younger players of India.

Sachin Tendulkar- India’s Little Master!

Filed under: Cricket Fever, Sports Stars — Ningsuhen @ 1:38 pm

Sachin Tendulkar- India’s Little Master!Sachin is India’s one of the greatest cricket players. He is affectionately called ‘The Little Master’, or ‘The Master Blaster’ is a current Indian cricketer who was rated by Wisden in 2002 as the second greatest Test Cricket and ODI batsman of all time after the legendary Sir Don Bradman and Viv Richards respectively. He holds multiple records such as the leading Test century scorer, leading ODI century scorer, one of only three batsmen to surpass 11,000 runs in test cricket as well as being the first Indian to do so, and the most career ODI runs and most overall career run tally.

Tendulkar made his international debut in 1989 and is an all-time crowd-favorite. He is the only Indian cricketer to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India’s highest sporting honor for his performance in 1997-1998. Many of his fellow players, past and present, and cricket experts, regard him as one of the greatest batsmen the game has ever seen.

Sachin Tendulkar defending a yorkerWhen he became the first batsman to score 50 hundreds in international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar established himself as the greatest of all Indian cricketers. Recognized by Sir Donald Bradman as his modern incarnation, Tendulkar has a skill - a genius - which only a handful has possessed. It was not a skill that he was simply born with, but one which was developed by his intelligence and an infinite capacity for taking pains. If there is a secret, it is that Tendulkar has the keenest of cricket minds. At times in a Test series he looks mortal. But he learns every lesson, picks up every cue, dominates the opposing attack sooner or later, and nearly always makes a hundred.

His bravery was proved after he was hit on the head on his Test debut in Pakistan, when he was only 16; and his commitment to the Indian cause has never been in doubt. If captaincy - or rather the off-field management of men less skilled than himself - was beyond him at his first attempt, his readings of the game, and his manifold varieties of bowling, have shown the same acute intelligence.

Sachin Tendulkar striking hardHis cricket has been played in the right way too, always attacking, and because he knew that was the right way rather than because he was a child of the one-day age, as he himself modestly said. The awe of opponents was as great as that of crowds. But the finest compliment must be that bookmakers would not fix the odds - or a game - until Tendulkar was out. He surpassed Sunil Gavaskar, his guru, as the leading century-maker in Test cricket with his 35th three-figure score in November 2005.

However, He is not active nowadays and his old skills are not showing up. He is getting weaker and he’s not able to make strong strikes. But still he has the potential and therefore, he is still playing in the Indian Cricket team. The question is whether he should play in the Indian cricket team on the Cricket world Cup 2011. It’s still s a doubt that he will play or not. But in my opinion, he will not play because he is more 20 years now and by that time he will be weaker. Similarly, for the other Indian players like Ganguly, I think they should a chance to the younger players.
