Will Ganguly Play in the Next World Cup?

Filed under: Cricket Fever, Sports Stars — Ningsuhen @ 2:16 pm

Saurav GangulyAlmost every Indian knows who Ganguly is. He is also one the greatest Indian Cricket Players. Ganguly is a left-handed batsman and a right-handed medium-pace bowler. Ganguly is naturally right-handed, but became a left-handed batsman at a young age so that he could use his brother, Snehasish’s equipment.

Ganguly has been nicknamed Bengal Tiger, Prince of Calcutta, and Lord Snooty by his opponents, and affectionately Dada (which means elder brother in Bengali) by his team-mates. Ganguly went on to become the captain of the Indian cricket team from 2000 to 2005. He led India to the 2003 World Cup finals, and holds the Indian captaincy record for the most Test victories.

Following an exit from the national team in early 2006, Ganguly was recalled to the Indian test side in December, staging a successful comeback in the 2006 – 2007 Indian tour of South Africa. Ganguly made his One-Day International debut for India against Australia in 1992. He didn’t score much and was dropped from further matches. Four years later, following a good domestic record, he was recalled into the national side for a Test series in England. He made his Test debut at Lord’s, scoring a century he became only the third cricketer to score a century on debut at Lord’s, after Harry Graham and John Hampshire. (Andrew Strauss has also since accomplished this feat). With a century in that match and repeated the feat in the match which followed. He was retained for the One day team and he went on become a regular in both forms of the game.

In January 1998, he had one of his most memorable performances in the final of the Independence Cup at Dhaka against Pakistan he scored 124 as India successfully chased down 315 off 48 overs, winning the Man of the match award.

Now, Will he play in the Indian Team in the 2011 World Cup? I hope not. Because even though he has been playing well recently, he is full of inconsistency and he is old as Sachin. Its time for India to try younger players and give opportunities to the newer ones. The older players like Ganguly, Tendulkar have played well but they are now showing weaker performances which may be the sign of their incapabiltities. So, If I’m to give my opinion, I’ll definitely choose the younger players of India.

Sachin Tendulkar- India’s Little Master!

Filed under: Cricket Fever, Sports Stars — Ningsuhen @ 1:38 pm

Sachin Tendulkar- India’s Little Master!Sachin is India’s one of the greatest cricket players. He is affectionately called ‘The Little Master’, or ‘The Master Blaster’ is a current Indian cricketer who was rated by Wisden in 2002 as the second greatest Test Cricket and ODI batsman of all time after the legendary Sir Don Bradman and Viv Richards respectively. He holds multiple records such as the leading Test century scorer, leading ODI century scorer, one of only three batsmen to surpass 11,000 runs in test cricket as well as being the first Indian to do so, and the most career ODI runs and most overall career run tally.

Tendulkar made his international debut in 1989 and is an all-time crowd-favorite. He is the only Indian cricketer to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India’s highest sporting honor for his performance in 1997-1998. Many of his fellow players, past and present, and cricket experts, regard him as one of the greatest batsmen the game has ever seen.

Sachin Tendulkar defending a yorkerWhen he became the first batsman to score 50 hundreds in international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar established himself as the greatest of all Indian cricketers. Recognized by Sir Donald Bradman as his modern incarnation, Tendulkar has a skill – a genius – which only a handful has possessed. It was not a skill that he was simply born with, but one which was developed by his intelligence and an infinite capacity for taking pains. If there is a secret, it is that Tendulkar has the keenest of cricket minds. At times in a Test series he looks mortal. But he learns every lesson, picks up every cue, dominates the opposing attack sooner or later, and nearly always makes a hundred.

His bravery was proved after he was hit on the head on his Test debut in Pakistan, when he was only 16; and his commitment to the Indian cause has never been in doubt. If captaincy – or rather the off-field management of men less skilled than himself – was beyond him at his first attempt, his readings of the game, and his manifold varieties of bowling, have shown the same acute intelligence.

Sachin Tendulkar striking hardHis cricket has been played in the right way too, always attacking, and because he knew that was the right way rather than because he was a child of the one-day age, as he himself modestly said. The awe of opponents was as great as that of crowds. But the finest compliment must be that bookmakers would not fix the odds – or a game – until Tendulkar was out. He surpassed Sunil Gavaskar, his guru, as the leading century-maker in Test cricket with his 35th three-figure score in November 2005.

However, He is not active nowadays and his old skills are not showing up. He is getting weaker and he’s not able to make strong strikes. But still he has the potential and therefore, he is still playing in the Indian Cricket team. The question is whether he should play in the Indian cricket team on the Cricket world Cup 2011. It’s still s a doubt that he will play or not. But in my opinion, he will not play because he is more 20 years now and by that time he will be weaker. Similarly, for the other Indian players like Ganguly, I think they should a chance to the younger players.

Lionel Messi-What will be his future?

Filed under: Football Mania, Sports Stars — Ningsuhen @ 7:05 pm

Diego Maradona is known by all of us. He is a legend of football. He was awarded the title of “FIFA player of the century” in 2000. He was the idol of many people till he was finally tested positive of cocaine. Even though he has stopped playing, he is still in minds of millions. Every fan of football knows him and it’s true that he is really the legend of football.

Now, after a few years fans of football have experienced another player like Maradona. He is also a player of Argentina and is famous for the Hand of God. Just like Maradona did, He went for a goal with his hand in the match against Espanol. The way he hit the ball with his hand was so thoughtful and was just like Maradona did. The part of the match showing him hit the ball can be seen in my other post- Maradona’s Hand of God.

Lionel Messi

If you see the video, you will surely agree what I have been talking about. So, we all know about Messi and his expertise in football. Now, the question is whether he will be like Maradona getting famous into the world of football or just become a normal footballer. The answer depends on how he handles the situation and what he has got. If he is just a player who’s been praised by people because of an incident similar to that of Maradona, it might also be possible that he will be no more than himself. However, it’s believed that Maradona himself told the public that Messi will one day become player like him. So, Let’s hope Sir Maradona’s right and hope the best for Messi.

India and Cricket!

Filed under: Cricket Fever, Events, Sports News — Ningsuhen @ 6:46 pm

Will India good enough for the next Cricket world Cup. In the 2007 world Cup, India couldn’t clear the Qualifying round. It was a disappointment to the people of India-a disappointment to 1,129,866,154 people. India is crowded with people who are fans of cricket. With a population of more than 1 billion people, they have high resources of man power. Also Cricket has been played by almost every child in India. In fact, Cricket is the most popular game in India. But still, India is far behind others in the game.

What may be the reason behind this backwardness? In my opinion, it may be of many reasons. The first that I’ll point out is lack of confidence. The Indian Cricket Team is known for lack of confidence for many years. Except in 80s when Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri were on form, there was a time full of confidence. And in the year 1983, India won the World Cup. But after the Win, India seems to have been unable to reach that standard of confidence. Though in the year 2003, India reached the world Cup’s Final, The Final match was not a good match. There was a loss of confidence in the Indian Team.

Talking about Confidence, I like to focus on the way Indian teams break down if the openers fail. It seems like the whole Indian team has their hope on the few top openers and the rest feel just like a support. However, In the Australian team, I see consistency. Even if the openers get out early, the mid players and even the bowlers try to score and cope up their loss.

Secondly, the weakness of the Indian Cricket team is their weakness. Compared to the Australians and other cricket players, the Indian players are much weaker. If you compare Rahul Dravid with Ricky Ponting or Ganguly with Gilchrist, you will surely agree that Rahul Dravid is weaker and Ganguly is weaker. With the exception of their skills, the Australians will surely be far better than the Indian Team.

So, what do we expect from the Indian Team. And what will be their position in the World Cup 2011? These things depend on how they improve their skills and confidence and most importantly their strength.

Yuvraj takes India to Series Win!

Filed under: Cricket Fever, Events, Sports News — Ningsuhen @ 5:55 am

Finally India has won the 3rd ODI with South Africa and hence also the Series. In the match that held yesterday the 1st of July 2007, Yuvraj made a score of 59 runs (not out) taking India to a score of 152 against South Africa’s score of 149 runs. Yuvraj also made a good performance on the 2nd ODI with a score of 49 runs.
The score board is shown in India Vs South Africa 3rd ODI Results

Indian Captain Rahul Dravid was pleased with the team’s series-win over South Africa in the Future Cup at Belfast and also Yuvraj for his exceptional performance in the Series. In fact, this was India’s first series-win outside the subcontinent since 2002 when they beat England. So, I expect a warm welcome for the players in India when they return Home.
